How to camp with your dog in the fall
Autumn is here and it’s getting cooler. However, changes in the weather should not stop the fun in the open air. If you want to discover an adventure in the fall with camping, here are some tips on how to camp safely (and warmly) with your furry friend.
1. Gather your sleep for cold weather
When temperatures drop, it is important to keep you and your dog warm. Stock up on a sturdy tent and bring sleeping bags to withstand the cold. A bedding for dogs, paired with a warm sleeping bag, is a great way to keep your dog comfortable at night. He is our favorite this waterproof mattress from our sister brand, Alpha Pak.
2. Check for ticks
Lower temperatures do not mean that annoying insects are gone forever. Check your dog carefully for ticks, especially in heavily wooded areas. For further protection from insects, bring bug spray with you and inform your dog of all measures to prevent fleas and ticks.
3. Camp with style
If the weather is cold enough, pack a light dog jacket for your dog. Bonus points if it’s a bright color that makes them easier to see while you’re on the trails!
4. Stay hydrated
Although it is well known that you should drink plenty of water during the hot months, it is important that your dog stays just as hydrated while camping in cooler weather. Dehydration may not be as noticeable in the fall as it is in the summer, but it can happen if you are not careful!
5. Get to know your furry friend
Pay special attention to your dog’s energy levels, hydration, hunger and behavior during colder camping sessions. The more attentive you are to your puppy, the better your travel experience will be. When they feel comfortable, you feel comfortable!
